This document shows plans for a project by the city council to improve access to the Alney Island area, and movement within that area, by a range of means, subject to funding.


Annual General Meeting

Date: July 6th. at 7pm.

At Montpellier Community Centre, off Brunswick Rd, behind Gloucester Park.

Work Party

Date: June 26th, at 10am.

Meet at path leading to the Island from the A430, opposite the council car-park, just north of Llanthony Road, for some trimming of vegetation. Tools available.


Walk with Gloucester U3A Natural History Walks Group

Monday July 20th  10am  

Meet at the Reserve car park  A flat walk but some uneven paths.  All welcome.

Field Meeting (Gloucester Naturalists' Society)

Botany of Alney Island.

Date: Sunday, March 29th, 2015, 11am.

Early spring meeting to record to record flora, especially spring ephemerals, and look in detail at some willow catkins, as several species are known to occur on the Island. Meet at 11.00am (note first day of summer time) at the small reserve car park at SO823190. To find, leaving Gloucester, turn left down little slip road 100m after crossing the Severn (before you get to the traffic lights). Meeting will continue after picnic lunch. All welcome to join us for as long as you would like. A joint meeting with Friends of Alney Island, GNS and Glos Plant Group.

Work Party

Breaking: the work party will start at 10:30am, instead of 10.

It’s that time of the month again! The work session is next Friday (27th). I would like to meet in the reserve car park at 10 am and we will be working around a pond area not far from the car park (but not the one we worked around last month!).

From Richard Lawrence, Park Ranger: 1st work group of the year is this coming Friday. I would like to ease us in gently
(I have a shoulder injury at present so about as useful as a chocolate teapot!)
with a little light tree trimming and litter picking. Meet in the reserve car
park (over westgate bridge) at 10 am.
